ARTIST STATEMENT:
Native Oegonian D.K. Boljat has been painting professionally since 2005. Darla grew up in Tigard and now calls Sherwood her home. Creating original art is Darla’s passion, she is a master at creating oil and acrylic paintings. Darla taught for a few years at the Sherwood Center for the Arts, and now teaches acrylic painting techniques step by step in classes at her home studio.

Darla is an inventor of a transparent brush organizer called “Boljat’s Art Buddy”, which makes her life as an artist and art teacher a lot easier.

CREATIVE PROCESS:
Darla enjoys the challenge of recreating the beauty of nature into her original paintings. Darla’s favorite subject is trees, so living in the pacific northwest provides ample inspiration for her art. For most of her paintings, Darla starts with acrylic paint to build texture and underpaint where needed. After the acrylic paint is dry, she layers oil paint, adding depth to the image. The painting is finished when she can see the beauty of the subject in it.

FUN FACTS & INSPIRATION:
The “murren” painting, created after Darla’s visit to Switzerland, is the most recent painting of the three pieces on display in this show at the Center for the Arts. “Gleneden” and “Crater Lake” are both locations in Oregon and are part of Darla’s “Seven Wonders of Oregon” collection.
