ARTIST STATEMENT:
Hello! My name is Rebecca Parker and I am from the Portland, Oregon area. I’ve always been creative, in every aspect of my life, since I was young. I feel a deep desire to create often--it’s like an urge to make something, a need to express my creativity. I love learning new techniques and enjoy the process of making new things.

I’ve had a love for art for as long as I can remember, so after high school I decided to pursue my passion in college. I graduated with an associates degree in fine arts. However, my career took me in a different direction and I went on to finish my bachelor’s degree with a different major… life and family happened and I didn’t make the time to make art.

So, after years and years of putting off my biggest passion of making art, I am finally making the time for it and getting back to doing something that I really love... and it feels so good. I am so grateful for having my husband, family, and friends to support and encourage me along the way.

FUN FACTS & INSPIRATION:
Rebecca has used many mediums over the years, but was drawn to alcohol ink because of its versatility, ease of flow and the vibrant colors that alcohol ink creates. First, Rebecca paints the alcohol ink with various techniques on yupo paper. Next, the art is adhered to a wood panel, which is then coated with a layer of resin. The resin creates a beautiful shine and makes the colors pop.

“Orchid Flow” was inspired by the colors of an orchid plant that Rebecca had in her home, “Petrichor” reminded her of the rain on a summer day, and “Tranquil” says it all with its name. She enjoys teaching children new techniques and mediums at the Sherwood Center for the Arts.
