Welcome to the 5th Annual Four Eights Artist Challenge!
You, the artist, are challenged to create and complete four works of art on four 8”x 8” canvases for submission in the Four Eights Arts Challenge. What will you create?
Rules
This is a non-juried show. Once you have signed up, you are participating in this Art Challenge. When you sign up you agree to these rules.
- Artists must be ages 14 and up.
- Artists must use the canvas provided by the Sherwood Center for the Arts for this show.
- All four canvases must share a theme. Example: Mountains, Butterflies, Rivers, Music, Childhood; the theme is your choice.
- You may use the medium of your choice. Works may be of the same medium (example: watercolor, mixed media, encaustic, etc.) or of different mediums. Please do not use anything that is toxic, dangerous, or exceeds the dimensions of your canvas.
- All parts of your artwork must be securely fastened to the canvas; we cannot accept wet or peeling artworks.
- You must have the form describing your artworks and their prices when you turn in your art.
- All artwork must be original and produced only by the registered artist.
- All art must be for sale. No sales before the show opens, please.
- Artist will receive 70% of the sold price of the artwork. The remainder is a commission paid to the Sherwood Center for the Arts. You will need to provide your tax identification number if you have sold artworks; we will remit funds to you for your percentage of sold artworks after the show closes.
- Sold artworks will be marked “sold” and will remain in the gallery for the duration of the show. Art buyers will need to pick up their artworks on the closing date, or make special pick-up arrangements with the Sherwood Center for the Arts.
- Unsold artworks must be picked up at the end of the show from the Sherwood Center for the Arts. Unsold Artworks not picked up timely may be disposed of after 30 days from the show end if not picked up.
- Registrants not following protocol will have their pieces removed from the show.
- You may add a substrate to the front of the canvas.
- Please do not attach hanging hardware or add anything to the back of the canvas.
- Your four canvases will hang vertically on the wall with space between each canvas. If you want your canvas to hang in a particular order, number the back. Please mark the back top of each artwork and write your name and title of work on the back as well.
- Canvases must be priced between $25 and $100 per piece. You may create a group price with all four canvases, with a maximum group price of $400. Each canvas must be able to be sold individually.
- Your canvas kit will include canvases, rules, inventory page, and other important information.
- The Sherwood Arts Center is a family-friendly venue, so no depictions of nudity or extreme violence, please.

Address is only for your commission payment for sold artworks only, all canvas must be picked up. Please make sure you provide your complete mailing address, including CITY, STATE and ZIP CODE on the registration form, as payments for sold artworks will be sent to this address at the end of the event.

Canvas pick up: July 19-23, 2021
Artwork drop-off date: October 4, 2021 between 8am and noon*
Gallery Opening Reception: October 7, 2021, 6pm-8pm
Artwork pick up date: December 6, 2021 between 8am and noon*
*If these times do not work for you, please reach out to staff to make alternate arrangements.
