Welcome to the Sherwood Center for the Arts

SCA

Our Mission: Inspire, educate, and enrich the Sherwood community through diverse activities that enhance the quality of life.

The Sherwood Center for the Arts serves as the centerpiece of the Sherwood arts & culture community – a hub for cultural activity, and a resource for local artists, arts organizations and arts patrons to expand the Sherwood cultural experience. The Center also serves as an event center and gathering space for the residents of Sherwood and the surrounding community.

History of the Sherwood Center for the Arts:

In June 2001 the Sherwood Cultural Arts Commission was established to advise City Council on cultural arts initiatives and goals. On January 10, 2014 the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sherwood Center for the Arts was held. February 28, 2015 was the grand opening celebration; over 2,000 people came to celebrate the culmination of over a decade of hard work, planning, community conversations and big dreams. In March 2015 the first full-scale theatrical production was presented: Voices for the Performing Arts’ Mary Poppins featured over 60 community members of all ages in the cast, and welcomed over 2,000 audience members to the brand new Center for the Arts. Arts classes launched that fall, and have continued ever since--even during the pandemic.

Programs:

Aside from being the performance venue for dozens of dance studios, theater companies, choral groups, and arts organizations, the Center for the Arts curates its own robust arts program, including the Family Matinee Series, ArtSmart Summer Camps, arts education classes, cultural events and celebrations, Broadway Master Class Series, an adult performance series, sing-alongs, the annual Veterans Day event, Old Town Art Walks, public art initiatives, community art projects, and a year-round art gallery.
