The Friends of the Sherwood Center for the Arts was established to support, enhance, and expand arts and culture activities for Sherwood and the surrounding community, through the programs of the Sherwood Center for the Arts (SCA). To support this mission and to further ensure access for all, the Friends have developed the Assistance Program. Through this program, the Friends of the SCA hope to allow anyone with an interest, access to the facilities and classes at the SCA – to bring creative expression to the lives of everyone and anyone who seeks it.

The Assistance Program has two areas of financial aid:

Scholarships

Scholarship Assistance offers financial aid to students of all ages who are interested in classes at the SCA, but the cost may have made it previously inaccessible. Scholarship Assistance is available to any student in need, once per calendar year for any classes, camps or workshops offered by the Sherwood Center for the Arts. Full or partial scholarships may be awarded, with a limit of $100 per gift, as funds are available. Applications will be reviewed regularly, on an ongoing basis, but must be submitted at least three weeks prior to the start of the class for consideration.

The Friends of the SCA will provide awards of up to $1,000 to non-profit organizations presenting public performances at the Sherwood Center for the Arts.  The awards are to be used specifically for rental fees at the SCA. The number and level of awards will be based on availability of funds, as well as project and need. Awards will be given for up to 50% of the total rental fee at the SCA, and will not exceed $1,000. When awards are announced, payments will be made directly to the SCA and will be credited toward the applicant’s contract for the applying production.
