Oregon Fresh Fibers

The late spring exhibit at the Center for the Arts showcases the variety and beauty of fiber art from artists throughout the region. Fiber art is created by using soft fibers such as yarn or fabric through fiber sculpting, weaving, felting, quilting and other methods.

In conjunction with the Spring Art Walk, the gallery opening reception will take place in the lobby from 5:00-8:00 p.m., and is free and open to the public. Meet the artists, curators and other art lovers, enjoy complimentary refreshments and live acoustic music by Jason Okamoto. This is sure to be a fantastic evening with a great chance to enjoy some wonderful artwork! Once you have made your way through the gallery, be sure to grab a map and join the Old Town Sherwood Spring Art Walk.

Meet Jason Okamoto, Guitarist

Born in Portland, Oregon, Jason Okamoto has forged his own sound combining classical, gypsy, and Latin American styles. Exposed to music at a young age, Jason began teaching himself guitar by ear. Soon, he became intrigued with the sound of the Belgian Gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt. This led him to play with several gypsy jazz bands and begin life as a working musician which coincided with the release of his first CD,  'solo trio". Through the music of Django, Jason began exploring flamenco, the music of the Andalusian gypsies. This eventually led to Jason building a repertoire of solo pieces combing his music influences. Using a classical nylon string guitar and incorporating live looping, Jason pays tribute to his music influences regularly throughout the Pacific Northwest.
